During the summer months, Split-Dalmatia County records a significant increase in the number of people due to the arrival of tourists, which places additional pressure on the healthcare system. In order to provide more accessible healthcare to tourists, as well as to all patients who require urgent but not hospital emergency care, the Split-Dalmatia County Health Centre has organized tourist clinics.

Tourist clinics have been opened at several locations across the county — in Split, at two locations: Matoševa 2 and Spinčićeva 1, as well as in Trogir, Omiš, Makarska, Hvar and Supetar.

This organization aims to ensure faster and more accessible healthcare for patients during the tourist season, while also reducing the burden on the Unified Emergency Hospital Admission Department of Universit hospital of Split, which must remain primarily available to seriously ill and life-threatening patients. Milder conditions and complaints that do not require hospital treatment can be managed in tourist clinics and through the primary healthcare system.

For the purpose of organizing the tourist clinics, Universit hospital of Split has provided premises during afternoon hours and on weekends, thereby further increasing the availability of healthcare during the period of greatest pressure on the healthcare system. For the first time, basic laboratory testing and X-ray diagnostics have also been made available, which should enable faster patient processing. This is an activity of the Split-Dalmatia County Health Centre carried out in cooperation with Universit hospital of Split.

When the tourist clinics of the Split-Dalmatia County Health Centre are not operating, patients and tourists may receive healthcare during working hours from all healthcare teams that have a contractual relationship with the Croatian Health Insurance Fund, i.e. those that display a clearly visible sign indicating that they are a contracted partner of the Croatian Health Insurance Fund.
